The New Elements of Style

Now because he missed his bus, your story has now branched off into a different storyline leading the character down a different path. You have no idea that this happened either until you get to the very end of the book where it shows you your path and you can then go back and reread parts of the book like going back and he makes his bus. And no, you don't choose your own story. It's based on how you read (not how slowly or how quickly you read it, either).
